Meet the Staff

Jane Burton

Hello there,

I’m Amanda Jane Burton, (known as Jane) Co-owner of Paws 4 A Day, owner and founder of Paws Positive dog training academy, and owner and founder of Paws 4 A Break Pet care services.

I have always loved animals and, from an incredibly early age, cared deeply for my own pets and spent many a happy hour teaching them basic commands.

When I moved to Turkey, I started to work with the ex-pat community there, on street neutering programmes, helping local shelters and pounds, setting up a charity to help fund food, shelter and vet fees.

On my return home, I set up our sister business, Paws 4 a Break – a home-boarding/ dog-walking/ pet services business.

This became extremely popular, very quickly – but I knew I wanted to learn more about what makes dogs tick, and how to help these dogs with behavioural problems… as I could see how frustrated they and their owners were.

Jane Burton (co-founder)

I knew there must be away to stop dogs being sent to rescue – just because their owners could not handle their problems. So, I began researching – and found some truly exceptional mentors and instructors to teach me.

I have spent the past eight years continually learning, observing, and practising the fields of training and behaviour, and I have done many courses, becoming an accredited member of many different organisations.

Among these, I have completed many courses with the world-renowned Dr Ian Dunbar – study which was invaluable to me.

I have also completed courses with Victoria Stillwell and Sarah Whitehead ABTD, becoming a member of the “force free” guild, PPGBI and the PPN.

I spent the past 3 years being mentored by team GB dog agility trainer Lauren Langman, and Dr Tom Mitchell a veterinary behaviourist – who formed the company Absolute Dogs – and I am now an accredited and certified professional dog trainer in their academy.

I was really inspired by the new innovative “force free” games-based approach that Tom and Lauren brought to the training world, and I knew I had to pioneer this technique in my home area of South Yorkshire, as dogs and their owners were missing out on this essential way of learning.

I also became an approved dog training instructor with the Dog Training College and became a puppy specialist with them.

Hence, Paws Positive dog training academy was created.

As a trainer I then started to see the fallout of some dogs attending some conventional type of large Day Care Centres where the dogs were just continually playing with each other all day and becoming over tired spilling over to behavioural struggles occurring. I knew there was a better way to provide owners with the care they needed for their much-loved pooches.

So, with Paul we started to put together a structured programme to both mentally and physically fulfil the dogs needs, enriching their days whilst promoting calm, rest and sleep as well. Adding in learning to teach the dog’s life skills, to help the owners on the dogs training journey. The idea of a dog day school came to life and Paws 4 A Day was born.

I then went to the IMDT to further my education with their Ofqual-rated day care course.

I do hope you feel inspired to come on the journey with us, as we endeavour to take the best of care of your doggies and help them become both better-behaved and… HAPPIER!

Paul

Hello there,

I’m Paul Greenhalgh co-owner of Paws 4 A Day.

I have owned dogs all my life and always enjoyed training them and teaching them favourable behaviours. I got into dog walking around two years ago, and at the same time started to assist Jane in dog training, learning new techinques and skills along the way.

I have two dogs of my own – Lucy and Finn – and I have another dog, Toby, living with me, whom I train on behalf of dogs for autism.

My main motivation to set up a day care with Jane was due to previous bad experiences with day cares – where my dog became unruly and disobedient as he was allowed to run with no rules and no break, making life very difficult once I returned from work.

I still hear stories like this on a regular basis.

Martyn

Hello there,

I am Martyn! Where to begin… born in Mexborough, South Yorkshire. I’ve been married before and have two children from my first marriage.

I have had a varied job career, starting at Rumblelows electrical before moving on to supermarket manager within the Co-op chain; I’ve worked on the motorway and owned a successful hotel in Turkey with my now partner Amanda (Jane to her friends).

It was whilst in Turkey that we discovered the plight of the street cats and the homeless dogs of Marmaris.

As a business in Turkey, we started to raise funds to help the needy animals of Marmaris, and spent many days helping out at the local dog shelter, caring for the strays that found themselves thrust together in a place where love was in short supply.

Myself and many other British and European settlers helped make their lives a little more bearable.

When we returned back to the UK, it seemed natural to work within the animal care industry and hence Paws 4 A Break  was formed – firstly dog-walking, then home boarding and daycare.

We also offer pet-sitting and have now opened this doggy day school starts. It’s just amazing we get paid for doing something we adore… looking after your fur babies! Yes, we are so lucky. xxx

Amy

Hello there,

I’m Amy! I’m a 19-year-old daycare assistant at Paws 4 A Day. My passion for working with animals came from my father, who has always owned several family pets. He taught me how to love, train and take care of them from a very young age.

My love for animals only grew as I did. It was always the dream field to work in which led me to complete my level 3 animal care course at college, and eventually to my first job as a canine trainer.

Whilst working as a K9 instructor I also became a certified decoy and learned a lot about working and training with both licensed working dogs as well as pets, in order to see them thrive at work or in their homes!

I have fallen in love with every dog I’ve ever met and I treat them all as my own.

So just be sure that whilst you’re working or away, your pooch will be getting all the love from me as they learn at school!

Charlotte

Hello there,

My name is Charlotte and I am a Daycare Assistant at Paws 4 a Day. I have always had a love for animals, since being a little girl and we have always had dogs in our family and been huge dog lovers!

I am a mum of two dogs of my own, Bono and Nala and I love spending all my spare time with them. I take them out on adventures to explore the world around us, I train them, and we have plenty of fun together and cuddles on the sofa too.

I have worked in the Animal Care Industry before in another Doggy Day Care Setting, but what makes Paws 4 a Day stand out from other Doggy Day Cares, is that we also train the dogs in our care and give them plenty of opportunity to rest, so that they aren’t coming home to you over stimulated and frustrated.

Overall, I thrive on ensuring that all the dogs in our care have plenty of fun when learning and that they are provided with plenty of enrichment activities throughout the day, in order to keep them physically and mentally stimulated.

Overall, I feel this is the job I was destined to do and I really love working with all the dogs in our care!
